Saturday 18th May, 2024 – Ballarat Tweed Ride.

Ride through Ballarat’s autumn streets as part of the Ballarat Heritage Festival, dressed up in your favourite vintage attire. Rosettes are awarded for the best dressed and there will be fun and entertainment at the start and finish of the ride. Once tickets are released a booking link will be available on this page.

Below are some frequently asked questions as well as a Participant Information Pack.

Where is the ride start?

The 2024 ride begins at the cathedral hall, Dawson St Sth, Ballarat.

Can I register for the style awards?

There is no need to register to take part in the style awards, just be there are the time the ride registrations open.

Those who are assessing the outfits as people arrive will shortlist the best dressed and give them each a ribbon. Right before the ride begins, the best dressed are asked to come to the front of the hall to show off their spectacular outfit. A rosette is then given to the winner of each category.

Be there when registration opens to make sure the secret judges and the ride organiser Liana get a chance to see your outfit.

How do I win a rosette?

The best way to impress those assessing is attention to detail to finish an outfit off. This means making intentional choices from head to toe. For example, one year’s most dapper rider also won his category in the Beard and Stache Competition a week later, because he had gone to the additional effort of shaping his moustache with wax.

Keep in mind a full list of things that take an outfit to the next level of polish such as socks or hosiery, a fur or faux fur wrap, millinery, lapel and tie pins, gloves, jewellery and scarves.

I’m spectating. Do I have to register?

No. Only participants need to register with a ticket.

Who needs to register for the ride?

Every participant who will be on the ride portion of the event should register for the ride, even if they are a passenger. This will ensure they are covered by the event insurance.

Why are you taking my personal information on the ticket booking?

Our event is supported by insurance tailored for cycling activities, provided by AusCycling. The information provided by each participant in the registration process is what is required to provide valid cover for participation in the event.

Your personal information will only be provided to AusCycling for this purpose and is not provided to any other parties. We treat participant information with respect and security.

Do I need to wear a helmet?

For insurance to cover the event and its participants, we need to follow all road rules including the wearing of helmets.

Usually, helmets are not vintage looking, so participants get created with helmet covers and the best is awarded the rosette for most spectacular safety gear.

Some simple and accessible options for covers we have seen participants create include pulling a beret over the helmet or wrapping it in a scarf. Some participants have found amazing helmets that look like hats and one even hand-sculpted swans out of cardboard, taking home the helmet category rosette in 2022.

I’m a media representative, how can I take part?

You are welcome to attend. If you would like to participate as a rider and media representative please contact the ride founder.

We strongly encourage all media attending to take part in the dress code, as you may end up in the background of other people’s photos and we often get a lot of media walking through the group.

Can I register someone else for the ride?

Yes. It is possible to book multiple tickets and provide the details of all participants that are being registered. Individual information should be provided for every participant.

All participants must be registered under their own name. If you book multiple tickets under a single name and details, please follow the prompts on Eventbrite to edit your registration details and include the details of your companions.

The ticket registration process collects the information of participants to cover the insurance for them to participate.

If an individual is not named on a ticket, they are not covered by the event waiver or insurance and are not registered to ride, even if the event registration fee has been paid.
